What's in the Next Pasture

More Worms, Moist Weather & Mom’s Wisdom

As a result of the cooler, wetter summer conditions, we’ve already seen army worm infestations and will likely continue to do so out on the farm. Although they are small and might not seem all that worrisome, a heavy infestation can be catastrophic to pastures, especially so close to dormancy. We do not yet have sprayers hooked up, but they are ready.

Yours should be, too.

Speaking of the wetter, cooler summer, it’s hard to believe that, coming out of August, there are only 12 counties in the entire state of Oklahoma considered “Abnormally Dry” (D0), and none in any other drought category. This summer has been phenomenal in Oklahoma, and we are blessed to have received it. However, like my mom always said, “it’s not a blessing unless you acknowledge it.” I deeply encourage all of us to give thanks, not only for the summer’s good growing conditions, but for all the blessings in our lives.

Until next time!
