As we continue developing its applications to natural resource management, Technology in agriculture is becoming more and more important. We here at the Choctaw Nation’s Agriculture and Natural Resource program are constantly taking this advancing technology into consideration, not only to improve efficiency and reduce costs on our own properties but also to share the results with others.
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones have been around for a while now and are finding their way to agriculture. One of the most interesting (and possibly most practical) applications is herbicide applications. Our hope this spring is to deploy these “systems” to assist in both brush control and pasture management efforts. As payloads increase due to stronger and longer battery life, their benefits will become even greater for larger scale applications. We’ll let you know how it goes!
Until next time!
